Alstroemeria, commonly known as Peruvian Lily or Lily of the Incas, is a stunning flowering perennial that produces clusters of trumpet-shaped blooms in a wide range of colors including red, orange, yellow, pink, white, and bi-color varieties. This 2.5-gallon container plant arrives well-established and ready to transplant into the garden or a large decorative pot.
Alstroemeria thrives in full to partial sun and is prized for its exceptionally long bloom season, typically flowering from late spring through fall. Plants grow 1 to 3 feet tall depending on variety, producing sturdy stems that make them outstanding as cut flowers with remarkable vase life of up to two weeks. They are a favorite of pollinators including bees and butterflies.
Hardy in USDA zones 6 through 10, alstroemeria is a low-maintenance perennial that returns year after year once established. It prefers well-drained soil and moderate watering, and benefits from a light application of balanced fertilizer in spring. Deadheading spent blooms encourages continued flowering throughout the season.
