Château Lagrange is a prestigious Third Growth (Troisième Grand Cru Classé) estate from the renowned 1855 Bordeaux classification, located in the heart of the Saint-Julien appellation on the left bank of the Gironde. This elegant red wine is crafted from a classic Bordeaux blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot, sourced from 118 hectares of vineyard planted on two ridges of Günzian gravel, with vines averaging 40 years of age.
The wine reveals deep, dark purple-ruby color with lively elderberry and blackcurrant aromas overlaid by chocolate and raisin notes. On the palate, fresh mineral acidity lifts vibrant, mouthwatering cassis fruit, while violet perfumes combine with ripe dark plum and prune flavors. The wine features an elegant finish with very fine structure and graphite smoothness, showcasing pure blackcurrant fruit. Like a tightrope walker, this wine reveals perfect harmony between its three grape varieties. Powerful and vibrant in youth, it acquires remarkable delicacy through slow, serene evolution. Over time, it develops notes of cedar, licorice, and tobacco characteristic of great Saint-Julien wines.
The estate, owned by the Japanese Suntory Group since 1983, has been meticulously restored to produce wines of incomparable breed and elegance. Château Lagrange is certified HVE 3 (High Environmental Value) and Terravitis, with sustainable viticulture practices including biodynamic farming on select plots. The wine is aged 18 to 20 months in oak barrels (60% new) with manual harvest in small crates and meticulous plot-by-plot vinification in 102 stainless steel vats.
