Guillemard-Clerc Clos des Coucherias Beaune 1er Cru is a Premier Cru red wine from Burgundy's Côte de Beaune region, crafted from 100% Pinot Noir grapes. This wine is produced by Domaine Guillemard-Clerc, a family-owned estate located in Puligny-Montrachet that has been growing since 1990 and now spans 8.5 hectares of prestigious Burgundy vineyards.
The wine showcases a luminous scarlet color with aromas of black fruits (blackcurrant, blackberry), red fruits (cherry, gooseberry), and earthy humus notes. In the mouth, it offers a nice freshness with fine tannins and complex flavors. The winemaking process involves total destemming of Pinot Noir grapes, approximately 10 days of vat maceration to achieve the characteristic ruby color and extract fine tannins, followed by aging in oak barrels for approximately 15 months (one-fifth new oak barrels from Allier). When young, the wine charms with crunchy fresh grape flavors and a firm, upright structure full of juice. With age, it develops notes of truffle, leather, and spices.
This elegant, well-structured Premier Cru pairs beautifully with red meats such as prime ribs, lamb chops, duck breast, beef bourguignon, pot-au-feu, roasted white meat, and creamy cheeses. The wine can be cellared for 5 to 12 years or more, with optimal drinking after a few years of aging. Domaine Guillemard-Clerc has earned recognition in the Guide Hachette des Vins for multiple vintages and obtained High Environmental Value (HEV) certification in 2020 for their sustainable and environmentally friendly viticulture practices, including annual plowing to prevent erosion and promote water penetration.
