The Burning Bush (Euonymus alatus 'Compactus') is a compact deciduous shrub celebrated for its spectacular fiery red fall foliage. Sold in a #5 container (approximately 3.7 gallon / 3.5 liter), this is a garden-ready shrub ideal for landscapes, hedgerows, and foundation plantings.

This cultivar typically grows 8–11 feet tall and wide in a naturally mounded habit, making it more manageable than the full-size species. The bright green summer foliage transitions to a vivid cherry-red or fluorescent pink in autumn, providing one of the most dramatic fall color displays of any landscape shrub. Branches feature distinctive corky "wings" that add winter interest. Small greenish-maroon flowers appear in late spring, followed by reddish-purple capsules with orange-red seeds that attract songbirds in fall.

Adaptable and low-maintenance once established, this shrub thrives in full sun to partial shade (full sun maximizes fall color) and tolerates a wide range of soil types including clay, loam, and sand across USDA Hardiness Zones 4a–8b.
