Marco Bonfante La Stella Barbera d'Asti is a 100% Barbera wine from the Barbera d'Asti DOCG Superiore appellation in Nizza Monferrato, Piedmont, Italy. The Bonfante family has been growing grapes in this region for eight generations, with the modern winery founded by siblings Micaela and Marco Bonfante. "La Stella" references the estate's south to south-east facing vineyards situated at 250 meters elevation on calcareous clay marl soils.
The wine is crafted using a split vinification approach: half the grapes undergo cold maceration to preserve fresh fruit character, while the remainder follows traditional skin contact for ten days before aging for ten months in a combination of Slavonian oak barrels and used French oak barriques. The result is a dry, medium to full-bodied red with a bright purple-red color, aromas of ripe cherry, blackberry, violet, and hints of spice and vanilla, and a smooth, fresh-acid finish typical of Barbera.
La Stella pairs well with traditional Piedmontese dishes such as pasta, risotto, grilled meats, and aged cheeses, and is best served at 16–18°C (60–64°F). Alcohol content is 14% ABV.
