Sea Smoke "Ten" Pinot Noir is an estate-grown wine from Sea Smoke Cellars, a premium Californian winery established in 1999 by Bob Davids in the Santa Rita Hills AVA of Santa Barbara County. The wine takes its name from the ten different Pinot Noir clones planted on the Sea Smoke Estate Vineyard, each contributing distinct character and complexity to the final blend.
The estate benefits from cool coastal breezes, persistent fog influence, and well-drained soils that yield vibrant acidity and classic Pinot Noir finesse. Grapes are hand-harvested, cold-soaked for five days, then fermented in open-top vessels with maceration lasting 16 to 28 days. The wine is aged 16 months in French oak barrels, 56% of which are new. Alcohol is 14.6% ABV.
On the nose, the wine is deep and intense with aromas of blueberry, black raspberry, dark plum, lavender, exotic spice, hazelnut shell, thyme, and licorice. The palate is medium-full bodied with ripe dark berry fruit, a savory herbaceous layer, firm tannins, and good length. The finish is long and velvety with a mineral undercurrent, making this wine suitable for both immediate enjoyment and medium-term cellaring.
