Baron de Ley Rioja Reserva is a classic, elegantly structured red wine from the Rioja Oriental subregion of Spain, crafted by one of Rioja's most esteemed estates. Made primarily from Tempranillo grapes blended with Graciano and Maturana, the fruit is sourced from Baron de Ley's own vineyards at the Mendavia estate and Los Almendros in Ausejo, prized for delivering concentrated, balanced, and highly drinkable character.
Following manual harvest and hand selection, the grapes ferment in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, calibrated for ideal balance between extraction and aromatic preservation. The wine is then aged for a minimum of 18 months in American oak casks before rounding off in the bottle, earning it Rioja Reserva DOCa status — Spain's designation for quality-aged red wines.
The wine pours a clean and bright ruby red with medium robe. On the nose it is complex, offering aromas of ripe red fruits and sweet spices with a balsamic background. On the palate, a powerful attack gives way to soft, supple volume that gradually extends across the palate, finishing with a creamy texture. The lingering aftertaste evokes red berry fruit mingled with hints of wild herbs.
An award-winning wine recognized by James Suckling (92pts), Decanter World Wine Awards (Gold and Silver), IWC, Wine Spectator (Top Wine of the Year), and Wine Enthusiast across multiple vintages. Best served at 15–18°C alongside roast meats, hearty stews, goose, turkey, or the traditional Spanish Patatas a la Riojana. 14% alcohol by volume, 750 ml.
