Lava Cap Cabernet Franc is a distinctive red wine from the Sierra Foothills appellation of El Dorado County, California, produced by Lava Cap Winery — a third-generation family farm perched at nearly 3,000 feet elevation in the Sierra Nevada foothills near Placerville.

The vineyard's volcanic, ash-laden soil with minimal topsoil promotes exceptional drainage and forces vines to dig deep for nutrients, imparting a unique character to the fruit. The high elevation brings warm yet temperate days, consistently 10–15 degrees cooler than the valley floor, allowing for slow, even ripening. Cabernet Franc is typically the first grape harvested at Lava Cap, developing a darker, more concentrated profile than is typical of the variety, with dried leaf complexity and none of the herbaceous character often associated with the grape.
