Obalo Las Arenas Rioja Reserva is a Spanish red wine from the D.O.C.a. Rioja appellation, produced by Bodegas Obalo in La Rioja Alta — one of the world's most celebrated winemaking regions. The wine is made from 100% Tempranillo sourced from old vineyards aged between 65 and 90 years, grown on calcareous-clay terraced slopes in the Sierra Cantabria foothills facing south.
The grapes are harvested manually and aged for 18 months in barrel followed by 2 years of bottle aging before release. This extended aging process lends the wine its depth and complexity. The soil profile — limestone, marl, and sandstone — combined with limited rainfall and low yields of 4,000–4,500 kg/ha produces concentrated aromas and a rich color.
On the palate, Las Arenas displays a bright violet hue with an intensely perfumed bouquet of blackberry, violet, dark chocolate, anise, and tobacco. Ripe dark berry and cherry flavors are underpinned by a firm mineral backbone, leading to a vibrant, focused, and lingering finish with floral and spicy qualities. Alcohol: 14.5% Vol. Pairs well with game, steaks, stews, and mature cheeses.
