Cline Fog Swept Pinot Noir is a cool-climate red wine from the Sonoma Coast AVA in California, crafted by Cline Family Cellars. The wine draws its character from the Pacific Ocean fog that rolls in each evening, blanketing the coastal vineyards and creating an extended, cool ripening season ideal for Pinot Noir.
Grapes are sourced from the Petaluma Gap, a distinct sub-region within the Sonoma Coast AVA, from Cline's Catapult and Diamond Pile vineyards located just miles from the winery. The shallow clay loam soils over compacted volcanic ash and rhyolite promote vine stress and lower yields, resulting in concentrated fruit. Hand-harvested grapes are fermented with native yeasts in open-top fermenters, then aged 15 months in a combination of 40% new French oak and 60% neutral barrels, with 100% malolactic fermentation.
The wine opens with vibrant aromas of black cherry and wild strawberry, layered with hints of black tea, mushroom, and bittersweet chocolate. On the palate it shows fresh, juicy acidity, an elegant mouthfeel, and fine-grained tannins with a touch of earthy complexity. Alcohol: 14.5%.
