Cardinale is a single-wine estate in Napa Valley, California, dedicated exclusively to producing one Cabernet Sauvignon each vintage under the direction of winemaker Chris Carpenter. This 750ML bottle is part of a three-bottle Costco offering and represents Cardinale's flagship expression, blending fruit from eight Napa Valley appellations across eleven vineyards with approximately 80% mountain fruit and 20% valley-floor fruit. The final blend is composed of approximately 91% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Merlot, a composition designed to balance structural complexity from high-elevation sites with the richness of benchland vineyards.
The wine opens with aromas of crème de cassis, spring flowers, graphite, and espresso-toned oak, with a subtle floral lift of rose petal and dried wildflowers. On the palate it delivers concentrated blue and black fruit, dark chocolate, and chalky minerality, with a long, finely textured finish of lingering graphite and spice. Recent vintages have earned scores of 96 to 98+ points from major publications including Jeb Dunnuck, James Suckling, Wine Advocate, Decanter, and Vinous.
Best served at 62–65°F in a large-bowled glass with at least 60 to 90 minutes of decanting. Pairs well with grilled prime rib, braised short ribs, and aged hard cheeses. The wine has a declared aging potential of 15 to 25 years from vintage.
