Original Grit Añejo Tequila is a handcrafted, additive-free premium tequila from the Los Valles (Amatitán) region of Jalisco, Mexico. This expression is a blend of 90% Extra Añejo and 10% Cristalino, made exclusively from 100% estate-grown Blue Weber agave aged 7 to 10 years. Produced under NOM 1477 by Leticia Hermosillo Ravelero and imported by Romano Imports, LLC of Chicago, Illinois.
The production process reflects traditional artisan methods: agave piñas are slow-cooked in a wood-burning brick oven, then crushed using a 100% tahona stone. Fermentation is open-air and spontaneous in stainless steel tanks, followed by double distillation in traditional copper stills over low heat. The Extra Añejo component is aged for 5 or more years in French Oak barrels, while the Cristalino portion rests 1 to 2 years in French Oak before charcoal filtration. The resulting spirit bottoms at 80 proof (40% ALC./VOL.) in 750 ML.
On the nose, this tequila opens with toasted coconut and flamed bananas. The palate delivers flaky pie crust and buttery toffee layered with vanilla bean sweetness. The Cristalino component lends a silky, clarified texture that extends a long, elegant finish. Bottles are produced by PAVISA in Mexico City and sealed with a branded wooden cap.
