Lioco Pinot Noir Mendocino County is a red wine crafted by one of California's pioneering natural wine producers. Founded in 2005, Lioco was at the vanguard of the New California Wine movement and is known for rendering minimalist, low-intervention wines from premier vineyard sites across the state.
This Pinot Noir is sourced from across Mendocino County using a mix of multiple clones including Pommard, 777, 667, and Martini. The fruit is fermented in open-top tanks with a 10% whole cluster addition, then aged for 8 months in a combination of neutral French oak barrels and stainless steel tanks. The result is a wine that follows an old-world style, emphasizing restraint and elegance over power. Practicing organic viticulture, LIOCO avoids synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, and herbicides in the vineyard.
On the palate, the wine delivers bright acidity with lingering flavors of black raspberry and sour plum. Aromas of preserved cherries, red rose, and forest floor give way to notes of dried tobacco, thyme, a touch of orange peel, and a hint of cola โ character contributed by the whole cluster fermentation. The wine is light to medium-bodied with a distinctively Californian expressiveness in a restrained, food-friendly style.
