Raymond Generations Cabernet Sauvignon is a premium Napa Valley wine honoring five generations of the Raymond family's winemaking legacy. The Raymond family arrived in Napa Valley in 1933 and became connected to the Beringer family through marriage in 1936. After Roy Raymond served as winemaker for Beringer from 1933-1970, he and his two sons established Raymond Vineyards with a 90-acre estate property in Rutherford, releasing their first commercial wine in 1974.
The 2022 vintage is a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot, sourced from five different vineyards across Napa Valley's finest appellations. The majority of grapes come from two vineyards on the west side of St. Helena, known for sandy soils that produce berries with sweet, ripe tannins. Additional fruit is sourced from a meticulously farmed knoll-top vineyard at the corner of Oakville Cross Road and Silverado Trail.
This limited production wine displays a striking dark ruby color with bold aromas of blackberry, cassis, dark cherry, violet, graphite, and subtle spice. On the palate, layers of blackcurrant, plum, and dark chocolate are supported by bright acidity and refined tannins. The finish offers notes of mocha, cedar, tobacco, and savory herbs with excellent length.
The wine underwent extended maceration, spending approximately 35 days on skins for enhanced complexity. It was aged 18-19 months in French oak from premium coopers including Ermitage, Baron, Taransaud, and Demptos, utilizing 34% new barrels with the remainder in once-used barrels. The wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered to preserve its natural character. Raymond Vineyards maintains over 170 acres of estate vineyards across three Napa Valley locations, with additional long-term growing contracts with over 15 Napa Valley growers. This wine has received 93 points from both Wine Advocate and Decanter.
