Root Shoot American Single Malt Whiskey is a grain-to-glass spirit produced by Root Shoot Spirits on a fifth-generation family farm in Loveland, Colorado, nestled at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. The grain — 100% Colorado-grown malted barley — is sown, grown, and malted entirely on the Olander family farm before being distilled in a traditional pot still and fermented off grain. The whiskey is aged four years in first-use medium char American White Oak barrels and bottled Bottled-in-Bond at 100 proof (50% ABV), ensuring exceptional quality and provenance. The entire supply chain spans only about 30 miles from field to bottle, making this one of the most locally sourced whiskeys in America.
On the nose, Root Shoot opens with aromas of cobbler, honeyed granola, new-growth forest, and black cherry. The palate delivers clean flavors of alpine florals, fresh mint, cardamom, and allspice. The finish offers an alpenglow of rich pastry, baking spice, faint cocoa dust, and long, lingering bright-yet-spicy flavors with deep tones of leather and forest floor. This whiskey has earned numerous accolades including American Single Malt Whiskey of the Year at the London Spirits Competition (2025 and 2026), Spirit of the Year USA 2026, Whisky of the Year 2026, ACSA Double Gold, New York World Spirits Competition Gold, and The Fifty Best Double Gold Medal.
Root Shoot Spirits contributes 1% of sales through a partnership with Zero Foodprint to support regenerative farmers, and produces a documentary film series about the importance of preserving Colorado agricultural lands.
