North of Scotland 50 Year Old is the first and only official bottling from the North of Scotland Distillery Co, located in Alloa, Scotland. It is a rare single-grain Scotch whisky from the Lowlands region, aged in bourbon casks for over 50 years. The distillery began producing whisky in 1957 and closed in 1980, making this an extraordinary opportunity to experience whisky from a lost piece of Scottish distilling history.
Bottled at 40.4% ABV (80.8 proof), this 700ML expression showcases the remarkable depth that can develop in grain whisky over five decades. On the nose, pecan nuts and custard creams emerge alongside aromas of nectarine and raspberry, with classic sweet grain notes of toffee, golden syrup, and baked apple, complemented by a touch of polish and dusty cinnamon. Richer notes of crème caramel, blood orange, and glacé cherries build with time. The palate delivers a thick, creamy mouthfeel with flavors of custard and dry spice — nutmeg and cinnamon — alongside tarragon, oregano, blood orange, and toasted hazelnuts. The finish lingers with walnut, toasted almonds, and vanilla fudge.
