Buffalo Trace Single Oak Rye Mash Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is a 375ML release from Buffalo Trace Distillery, produced by the Sazerac Company in Frankfort, Kentucky. This expression is bottled at 90 proof and recreates the legendary Barrel #80 from the original Buffalo Trace Single Oak Project, an ambitious experiment launched in 1999 in which 96 oak trees were harvested into top and bottom sections to produce 192 individual barrels. Seven variables were manipulated across the project — mashbill (wheat or rye), entry proof, stave seasoning duration, wood grain size, barrel char level, tree cut position, and warehouse type — and consumers voted on the results through a series of 192 quarterly releases from 2011 to 2015. Barrel #80, the winner, used a rye-based mashbill.

The 2026 Single Oak release revives Barrel #80 as a permanent expression. It delivers classic Kentucky bourbon character with a light, refined profile. The nose opens with vanilla, oak, caramel, Granny Smith apple, and honey. On the palate, flavors of mild oak, cinnamon stick, faint rye spice, white peppercorn, caramel, and baking spices come through at a gentle weight. The finish is short and clean, with baking spices, dried oak, light leather, vanilla cream, and a gentle rye spice fade.
