This Costco warehouse garden center offering features a live, blooming dahlia plant presented in a 14-inch diameter planter container with a 7.0 gallon (27.0 liter) soil capacity. The dahlia is grown in a 12-inch nursery pot and transferred into the display container, making it ready to enjoy on patios, decks, entryways, or in garden beds.
Dahlias are prized summer-through-fall bloomers that produce abundant, showy flowers ranging from small pompons to large dinner-plate varieties. They thrive in full sun (6 or more hours per day) and prefer well-drained, consistently moist soil. Water regularly—about once a week, increasing to twice a week during hot or dry spells—and feed with a low-nitrogen fertilizer to encourage prolific blooming. Deadhead spent flowers to promote continuous new growth.
Note that dahlias are toxic to dogs and cats, so keep plants out of reach of pets. In USDA Hardiness Zones 8 and below, dahlia tubers should be dug up and stored indoors after the first frost to be replanted the following spring.
