The Dwarf Alberta Spiral Spruce (Picea glauca 'Conica') is a classic conifer topiary trained into an elegant spiral form. Sold in a #7 container (7-gallon / 26.5-liter pot), this specimen arrives as an established plant ready for your garden or entryway. Its dense, fine-textured deep green needles and naturally cone-shaped growth habit make it a timeless choice for formal gardens, container arrangements, and year-round landscape structure.
This slow-growing evergreen typically reaches a mature height of 6–10 feet over many years, with a spread of 2–4 feet, making it an excellent choice where a compact, sculptural accent is desired. It thrives in USDA Hardiness Zones 3–7 and performs best in full sun to partial shade, preferring at least six hours of direct sunlight daily. Plant in evenly moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil and water regularly, especially during hot, dry periods. Avoid waterlogged conditions.
Feed once in spring with a balanced slow-release fertilizer (10-10-10 or 14-14-14), and supplement with an acidic organic fertilizer in fall if desired. To maintain the spiral shape, hand-prune only the current season's new growth in late winter or early summer. Remove any dead or damaged branches as needed to keep the form tidy and healthy.
