Stags' Leap Winery Merlot is a classic Napa Valley red wine produced in the renowned Stags Leap District, a distinctive "valley within a valley" located about four miles north of the town of Napa. This approximately 2,700-acre appellation is celebrated for its large diurnal temperature swings, which create the ideal balance of acidity and sugar development—conditions particularly well suited to Bordeaux varietals like Merlot.

On the nose, the wine opens with aromatics of ripe red cherry and sweet strawberry jam, followed by complex earthy undertones and tart cherry notes. The palate is medium-bodied with a lush, velvety texture delivering flavors of rich red fruit, plum, licorice, vanilla, toasted almonds, dried thyme, and rosemary, with a hint of black truffles. Subtle baking spice notes of cinnamon and cloves transition to savory caramel on the mid-palate. Firm yet refined tannins provide structure and carry through a long, polished finish. The wine is approachable upon release and has the structure to develop further with a few years of cellaring.
