Mount Eden Estate Chardonnay is a prestigious white wine from one of California's most storied wineries, situated on a rugged mountaintop in the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA. The estate vineyards were first developed in 1945 by legendary vintner Martin Ray, with Chardonnay vines propagated from selections brought to California by French winemaker Paul Masson, giving Mount Eden one of the longest lineages of Chardonnay in North America.
The estate vineyards are planted at elevation in infertile Franciscan shale soil, located 15 miles from the Pacific Ocean, above the fog line. This cool, sunny climate combined with naturally low yields — typically not exceeding two tons per acre — allows for slow, steady maturation and intense flavor development. Vertical vine training maximizes sunlight exposure to the grape clusters throughout the long growing season. The result is a rich, complex Chardonnay with the structure and depth characteristic of the Santa Cruz Mountains appellation. This 750ml bottle is sold by the case of 12.
