Fresh wild sablefish fillets, also known as black cod, sourced from the cold, deep waters of the North Pacific and Alaska. Sold per pound at Costco's meat and seafood counter, these fillets are previously frozen to preserve peak freshness and are thawed for purchase. The fish is wild caught using sustainable longline fishing methods certified by the Marine Stewardship Council.
Sablefish is prized for its exceptionally rich, buttery flavor and silky, soft-textured white flesh. It is one of the most omega-3-rich fish available, containing approximately 1,792 mg of EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids per 100g serving โ nearly twice that of wild King Salmon and ten times the amount found in Atlantic cod. The fish inhabits deep ocean depths between 650 and 9,000 feet along the West Coast of the United States and through Alaska.
The fillet is versatile in the kitchen and pairs beautifully with miso marinades, soy glazes, or simple preparations such as pan searing, baking, or broiling. The high natural fat content keeps the flesh moist and flavorful even at high heat, making it a forgiving choice for home cooks. It is considered a premium seafood product and is frequently featured at upscale restaurants.
