St. Francis Old Vines Zinfandel is a premium red wine from Sonoma County, California, crafted from hand-picked grapes grown on some of the finest old vine Zinfandel vineyards in the region. The blend consists of 89% Zinfandel with the remaining 11% being a combination of Alicante Bouschet, Mourvedre, Carignane, Syrah, and Petite Sirah. The grapes are sourced from vines that are 55 to 100 years old across the Russian River Valley, Sonoma Valley, and Dry Creek Valley, producing fewer but more intensely flavorful grapes characteristic of old vines.
Aged for 15 months in American oak barrels, this deeply colored, rich red wine displays the unique character of old world style Zinfandel with 14.8-15.5% alcohol content. The wine presents really pleasant aromas of blackberry, plum, black pepper, caramel, and a touch of anise. On the palate, it delivers smooth and rich flavors of blackberry and plum, backed up with savory notes like caramel, molasses, pepper, and spice. The finish is long-lasting with rich fruit and vanilla notes.
This Zinfandel has won numerous awards, including Double Gold at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition for the 2022 vintage and Gold for the 2021 vintage. The wine is jammy and generous but not overpowering, loaded with blackberry and cherry flavors accented with hints of pepper and licorice. It pairs beautifully with grilled meats, barbecue, hearty stews, and aged cheeses. Drink now through 2030.
