Allegrini Amarone della Valpolicella is one of Italy's most prestigious red wines, produced by the celebrated Allegrini family estate in the Classico zone of the Valpolicella DOC in the Veneto region of northeastern Italy. Allegrini is widely regarded as one of the leading innovators and benchmark producers in Valpolicella, with roots in the region dating back centuries.
Amarone is made using the traditional "appassimento" method, in which harvested grapes — primarily Corvina Veronese, Corvinone, and Rondinella — are dried for several months on straw mats or in drying lofts to intensely concentrate their sugars, flavors, and tannins before pressing and fermentation. The result is a rich, full-bodied red wine of remarkable depth and complexity. This vintage earned 93 points from Wine Spectator, which described it as "an elegant red, with a supple texture and a frame of fine-grained tannins" offering "a generous core of plumped black cherry and warm fig" with notes of "pomegranate seed, mocha, vanilla and spiced orange peel."
This wine pairs beautifully with braised short ribs, osso buco, lamb, aged hard cheeses such as Parmigiano-Reggiano or aged Pecorino, and hearty pasta dishes. It benefits from decanting before serving and can cellar for many years.
