Fresh Brazilian papayas, harvested from tropical regions of South America. This pack contains 2 papayas with a total weight of approximately 2.5 pounds. Brazilian papayas have green skin when unripe that turns yellow to orange-red when perfectly ripe, with vibrant yellow, orange, or red flesh inside. The fruit contains an enzyme called papain which aids digestion and has been used for thousands of years to tenderize meat.
Rich in nutrients, each papaya provides exceptional amounts of vitamin C (88% daily value), vitamin A, folate, and potassium. The fruit is loaded with powerful antioxidants including lycopene, quercetin, and carotenoids that can reduce inflammation and oxidative stress. Studies show that carotenoids are more bioavailable from papaya than from tomatoes or carrots. The flesh has a sweet, tropical flavor best enjoyed when cold.
Papayas support digestive health through the papain enzyme, which helps break down proteins and may relieve constipation and bloating. The high vitamin C and lycopene content protects skin health and reduces visible signs of aging. Research suggests the antioxidants in papaya may have anticancer properties and support heart health. Brazil and Central/South America are responsible for 47% of global papaya production, making these fruits widely available year-round at low cost.
Best consumed when the skin yields to gentle pressure and shows yellow to orange-red coloring. Can be eaten fresh by cutting in half, removing the edible but bitter black seeds, and scooping out the flesh. Pairs well in smoothies, salads, salsas, or as a standalone fruit. Store refrigerated to maintain optimal flavor and texture.
