Costco's fresh whole farm-raised Atlantic salmon is sold by the pound at the seafood counter, offering an excellent value on a premium fish. Atlantic salmon cannot be wild-caught in the United States or Canada due to protected species status, making farm-raised the standard for fresh Atlantic salmon availability. Farm-raised Atlantic salmon is prized for its rich, mild flavor, characteristically moist and tender flesh, and deep orange-pink color that comes from its diet and farming conditions.
The whole format allows for maximum versatility in the kitchen. You can have it filleted at the counter or at home, cut it into salmon steaks, roast it whole for a dramatic presentation, or portion it into individual fillets for meal prep and freezing. A whole salmon yields fillets, collar portions, and bones well-suited for making stock.
Farm-raised Atlantic salmon is an excellent source of high-quality protein and is one of the richest dietary sources of omega-3 fatty acids, which support heart and brain health. The fish is well-suited to a wide variety of cooking methods including baking, grilling, poaching, pan-searing, and slow roasting. Its mild, fatty profile pairs beautifully with simple seasonings like lemon and herbs, as well as bolder sauces such as teriyaki, pesto, or chimichurri.
