Fresh wild-caught mahi mahi fillets sold by the pound from Costco's seafood counter. Mahi mahi, also known as dolphin fish, is a firm, mild white fish prized for its slightly sweet flavor and lean, meaty texture. These fillets are boneless and skinless, making them easy to prepare with minimal effort.
Mahi mahi is incredibly versatile in the kitchen. It excels on the grill at medium-high heat for about 7 minutes per side, or it can be baked at 400°F for 10–12 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 158°F. It is also excellent pan-seared in a light oil and pairs naturally with tropical fruit salsas, citrus marinades, and bold spice rubs. It makes exceptional fish tacos and can be seasoned simply with salt and pepper or elevated with blackening seasoning, Baja-style spices, or a garlic butter glaze.
Mahi mahi is a nutritionally dense fish that is low in calories and fat while being rich in high-quality protein. A typical 4-ounce serving contains approximately 90–100 calories, 21 grams of protein, and only 1–2 grams of fat, with no carbohydrates. It is a good source of niacin, vitamin B12, phosphorus, and potassium.
