Château Pesquié Quintessence is the flagship red wine from the Pesquié estate, located on the slopes of Mont Ventoux in the Côtes du Ventoux appellation of France's southern Rhône Valley. Sold in a standard 750ML bottle, this is one of the benchmark wines of the region and a perennial favorite among Rhône enthusiasts.
The wine is a blend of approximately 80% Syrah and 20% Grenache, sourced entirely from old vines averaging over 50 years of age, planted at elevations between 250 and 350 meters. Quintessence Rouge was first produced in 1990 by Paul Chaudière, and the wine continues to be made by his sons Alex and Fred. The elevated vineyard sites contribute freshness and complexity to what was once considered a humble bulk-wine region, now recognized for producing characterful and age-worthy reds.
On the nose, the wine presents aromas of plums, currants, cherries, grilled herbs, leather, and black olives. On the palate it is full-bodied with plush tannins and a creamy core of red fruit and spice. It has earned 91 points from James Suckling and is well-regarded as an outstanding value among Southern Rhône red blends.
