Point Reyes TomaRashi is a semi-hard artisan cheese from Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company, a women-owned farmstead creamery based in Northern California. It blends the rich, buttery texture of classic Toma with Shichimi Togarashi, a Japanese spice blend of chili flakes, nigella, chili powder, orange peel, ginger powder, and nori. The result is a layered flavor profile of gentle building heat, umami depth, and nutty complexity that distinguishes it from traditional aged cheeses.
Aged for 90 days, TomaRashi has a creamy semi-hard texture with a waxed rind. It is made with microbial (vegetarian) rennet, is gluten-free, and carries Real California Milk certification. The cheese has earned numerous awards including 1st Place at the 2022 American Cheese Society Competition, Best Cheese at the 2022 Good Food Awards, and Double Gold at the 2025 California State Fair. Sold at the Costco deli counter by the pound in random-weight pieces of approximately 14.75 oz each.
Versatile in the kitchen and at the table, TomaRashi melts beautifully into scrambled eggs, pairs naturally with seaweed wraps and tacos, and complements gin and tonic, light pilsner, or Japanese-style beer.
