Costco's Pugliese Bread is an authentic rustic Italian loaf inspired by the traditional bread of Puglia, the southeastern region of Italy. Each package includes two round loaves, each weighing 17.5 ounces, for a combined total of 35 oz of freshly baked artisan bread from the Costco bakery.
Pugliese is a classic Italian rustic bread closely related to ciabatta, distinguished by its round boule shape, open and airy crumb, and chewy texture. It is traditionally made with a blend of bread flour and fancy durum (semolina) flour, which gives the loaf its characteristic golden crust and slightly nutty, wheaty flavor. A long fermentation process enhances the depth of flavor, resulting in a crusty exterior and a soft, hole-filled interior that is ideal for tearing and dipping.
This bread pairs beautifully with olive oil, soups, stews, antipasto platters, and Italian cheeses. Its substantial size makes it well suited for sandwiches, bruschetta, or serving alongside pasta dishes. The thick, crisp crust and chewy crumb hold up well to hearty fillings and dipping sauces.
