Fresh wild sablefish, also known as black cod, sold by the pound as a fillet. This fish is wild-caught and previously frozen to lock in its peak ocean freshness and quality. Sablefish is prized for its velvety, rich, buttery texture and mild flavor, making it one of the most sought-after fish available at the seafood counter.
Sablefish is exceptionally high in omega-3 fatty acids (DHA and EPA), making it one of the most nutritionally dense fish available. It is also a good source of protein, vitamin B12, potassium, and iron. The fish is versatile in the kitchen and well-suited for smoking, sautéing, roasting, poaching, or grilling. It pairs particularly well with miso marinades and butter-based preparations, and is often compared to Chilean sea bass for its similarly rich and silky texture.
For best quality, thaw the fillet in the refrigerator overnight before use. Once thawed, use within a day or two for optimal freshness.
