Fresh whole farm-raised tilapia sold by the pound, available at Costco warehouse locations. This is a whole, unfileted fish ideal for roasting, steaming, or traditional preparations where the bones and skin add flavor during cooking.
Tilapia is known for its sweet, mild taste and flaky white flesh. Farm-raised tilapia are raised in controlled environments, which limits their contact with pollution and results in lower mercury levels compared to many wild-caught fish. The fish is a lean, affordable source of high-quality protein, providing approximately 23 grams of protein per fillet serving. It is rich in vitamin B12, selenium (providing around 88% of the daily value per fillet), phosphorus, potassium, niacin, and vitamin D — nutrients that support bone health, heart function, and immune health. Tilapia contains omega-3 fatty acids as well as omega-6 fatty acids from its plant-based diet.
Whole tilapia can be baked, grilled, pan-fried, steamed, or stuffed. For best results, score the skin and season with garlic, lemon, herbs, or spices before cooking. A whole fish retains moisture during cooking and is well-suited for traditional Latin, Asian, and Mediterranean preparations. Cook to an internal temperature of 145°F.
