Geyser Peak's Walking Tree Cabernet Sauvignon is a flagship red wine from the Alexander Valley appellation in Sonoma County, California. The wine takes its name from an ancient oak tree that remarkably "walked" down a steep vineyard grade during heavy rains, remaining upright and very much alive — a local legend that speaks to the resilience and character of this historic wine region. Geyser Peak Winery carries over 135 years of winemaking history in Sonoma County and has earned Wine & Spirits "Winery of the Year" honors nine times.
The fruit is sourced from two excellent Alexander Valley vineyards — one on the eastern benchlands and the other on the western side of the valley bordering Geyserville. The contrasting soils, exposures, and microclimates of these two sites add enticing complexity to the finished wine. Following traditional fermentation, the wine is aged for 20 months in French oak barrels. The blend is typically 97% Cabernet Sauvignon with 3% Petit Verdot, with an alcohol content around 13.7–14.2% ABV.
The wine presents a deep garnet color with amethyst reflections. Expressive aromas of dark berry, cassis, and white pepper give way to a palate full of luscious blueberry and blackberry with hints of toasted vanilla and leather. Refined tannins lead to a subtle spiciness that lingers on a long, elegant finish. Recent vintages have earned 91–92 points from James Suckling.
