Fresh wild-caught ahi tuna (yellowfin tuna) steaks from Costco's Kirkland Signature line. This premium-grade tuna is wild-caught in the Philippines and processed in the United States. The fish features firm, mild-flavored flesh with coloration ranging from pink in smaller fish to deep red in larger fish, indicating high quality and freshness.
Ahi tuna is prized for its versatility in cooking and is excellent for sashimi, sushi, poke, grilling, searing, broiling, and blackened preparations. The firm texture and mild flavor adapt well to numerous cooking methods. For food safety, cooking guidelines recommend cooking to a minimum internal temperature of 145°F, though ahi tuna is commonly served seared rare or raw in sushi-grade preparations.
The fish is sold fresh (never frozen) at approximately $16.99 per pound, with each package typically containing around 2 pounds. The sell-by date is approximately 3 days after the pack date, and since the tuna has not been previously frozen, it can be frozen at home for longer storage.
