New Zealand Ling (Genypterus blacodes) is a wild-caught deepwater fish harvested from the pristine waters surrounding New Zealand's South Island and the Campbell Rise at depths of 200 to 800 meters. This firm, boneless white-fleshed fish has earned a devoted following for its mild, sweet flavor that many shoppers compare favorably to lobster. Costco sources these fillets fresh and sells them per pound, making it easy to purchase exactly the quantity you need without committing to a large frozen package.
The fillets are boneless with a firm texture that holds together exceptionally well during cooking, lending tremendous versatility in the kitchen. New Zealand Ling works beautifully when pan-seared, grilled, baked, broiled, used in fish tacos, or even prepared as sashimi. The mild flavor absorbs marinades and seasonings readily โ a simple preparation with lemon, olive oil, and fresh herbs is all it takes to produce a restaurant-quality meal at home.
New Zealand Ling is certified sustainable by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), the global gold standard for sustainable fisheries, a certification it has held since 2014. The fishery is also managed under New Zealand's Quota Management System, with regular stock assessments to ensure long-term population health. Lean and high in protein, New Zealand Ling is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, selenium, phosphorus, vitamin B12, and vitamin D.
