Badia a Coltibuono is one of Tuscany's most historic estates, with roots dating back to 1051, situated in the heart of the Chianti Classico zone in Gaiole in Chianti. This Sangiovese Toscana IGT — known as "Colmaia" — is a pure varietal expression of organically farmed Sangiovese grapes grown in some of the most favorable terroir in Tuscany.
The wine is vinified through manual harvest followed by fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures to preserve fresh, fruity aromatics. It then ages in oak barriques, developing complexity, balance, and subtle spice. The result is a bright ruby-red wine with an expressive bouquet of cherry, blackberry, and raspberry, layered with violet, tobacco, and light spice. On the palate it shows well-defined structure, fine integrated tannins, lively acidity, and a long, satisfying finish with returning fruit and spice.
An excellent pairing with Tuscan and Mediterranean cuisine — roasts, game, mushroom-based dishes, and aged cheeses.
