Fresh whole wild sockeye salmon sold by the pound, head and gutted. This premium wild-caught Pacific salmon is known for its rich, deep red flesh and firm texture. Wild sockeye salmon has a distinctive classic salmon flavor that is more pronounced than farmed varieties, with a complex, non-fishy taste profile. The fish is flash-frozen immediately after being caught to preserve freshness and eliminate parasites, then thawed for sale in the fresh seafood section.
Sockeye salmon is prized for its high nutritional value, containing abundant omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA), excellent protein content, and rich levels of B vitamins including B3, B6, and B12. The deep red color comes naturally from the salmon's diet of krill and shrimp, which contain carotenoids and astaxanthin. Wild sockeye is leaner than farmed Atlantic salmon, with firmer flesh and skin-on portions that become deliciously crispy when cooked.
This whole salmon can be portioned and prepared using various cooking methods including grilling, baking, pan-searing, broiling, or poaching. The skin is edible and nutritious when properly prepared. May contain small pin bones that should be removed before cooking.
