Delsym 12 Hour Cough Relief is an extended-release cough suppressant that provides powerful relief for up to 12 hours from cough due to minor throat and bronchial irritation as may occur with the common cold or inhaled irritants. The active ingredient is dextromethorphan polistirex, an extended-release formulation equivalent to 30 mg dextromethorphan hydrobromide per 5 mL, designed to suppress the cough reflex and help you get to sleep. Adults and children 12 years and older should take 10 mL every 12 hours, not to exceed 20 mL in 24 hours. Children 6-11 years should take 5 mL every 12 hours with a maximum of 10 mL daily. Children 4-5 years should take 2.5 mL every 12 hours with a maximum of 5 mL daily. Do not use for children under 4 years. Do not use if taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or for 2 weeks after stopping MAOI therapy. Stop use and consult a doctor if cough persists for more than 7 days, returns, or is accompanied by fever, rash, or persistent headache. Keep out of reach of children.
