Lau lau is a staple of Hawaiian cuisine, prized for its melt-in-your-mouth texture and earthy, umami-forward taste from the taro leaves. Each piece is individually wrapped in ti leaves, which hold in moisture and impart a subtle, aromatic flavor during steaming. Before eating, remove the outer ti leaf wrapping — the interior taro leaves and filling are all edible.
