Ramey Wine Cellars Claret is one of the few remaining California Clarets, a Cabernet Sauvignon-based Bordeaux-style blend that serves as a time capsule of a great old style of wine. Produced in Napa Valley's North Coast appellation, this sophisticated red blend offers layered complexity with dark fruit, herbs, and spices.

The 2019 vintage is comprised of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah, 9% Malbec, 8% Petit Verdot, 6% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. Malolactic fermentation is completed in barrel, and the blend is assembled early so it is elevated as the finished wine. It rested on its lees eighteen months in 20% new French and American oak barrels with monthly batonnage to coat the tannins, producing a luscious, cushioned mouthfeel. The wine was lightly fined with egg whites and bottled without filtration.

On the palate, expect aromas of sweet chocolate cherry cake, dried mint, and fine loose tobacco, with flavors of dark plums, brambly blackberries, and a fresh finish with sophisticated spices and minerals. Sold in a 12-bottle case format at Costco.
