Extra-colossal wild white shrimp sold per pound at Costco's fresh seafood counter. The "U-12" designation means there are fewer than 12 shrimp per pound, placing these among the largest shrimp commercially available โ ideal for impressive presentations and recipes where shrimp take center stage.
These are wild-caught white shrimp, prized for their clean, naturally sweet flavor and firm, meaty texture. Wild-caught shrimp feed on their natural ocean diet, giving them a distinct taste advantage over farm-raised alternatives. They contain no added water, brine, or preservatives.
"Previously frozen" indicates the shrimp were flash-frozen at the source immediately after harvest to lock in freshness, then thawed for display in Costco's fresh meat and seafood section. This is the gold standard for quality seafood preservation. These shrimp should not be refrozen after purchase.
At this colossal size, U-12 shrimp excel on the grill (skewered to prevent falling through grates), broiled with butter and garlic, stuffed and baked, or served as dramatic standalone appetizers. They also work beautifully in shrimp scampi, bisque, and pasta dishes where a large, satisfying shrimp is desired.
