These are large U-20 white shrimp, meaning there are fewer than 20 shrimp per pound — a jumbo size prized for their substantial, meaty texture. They are farm raised under controlled conditions and sold by the pound at Costco's fresh seafood counter after being previously frozen for quality preservation.
U-20 white shrimp are a versatile choice for a wide variety of dishes. Their large size makes them ideal for grilling, pan-searing, sautéing with butter and garlic, shrimp scampi, stir-fry, pasta, and seafood boils. Because they are sold raw, they can be prepared exactly to your preference — whether shell-on for maximum flavor or peeled and deveined for convenience.
Farm-raised white shrimp are typically sourced from Southeast Asia or Latin America. They have a mild, slightly sweet flavor with a firm, snappy texture when properly cooked. As with all previously frozen seafood sold fresh at the counter, they should be used within one to two days of purchase or refrozen promptly.
