Tenuta Caparzo Brunello di Montalcino is a prestigious red wine from the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG appellation in Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy. Produced from 100% Sangiovese grapes, this is one of the historic Brunello estates, with Caparzo's first vintage dating to 1970 when there were only 13 wineries in all of Montalcino. The estate spans approximately 90 hectares (210 acres) on a south-facing hillside at 220 metres above sea level, providing ideal conditions for Sangiovese viticulture.
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel over 10–15 days at 28°C, with delestage performed 2–3 times and pump-overs twice daily. Seeds are removed after 36–48 hours to prevent excessive tannin extraction. The wine is then aged for three years in large 30–50 hectoliter traditional Slovenian and French oak casks, consistent with the stringent requirements of the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG.
The wine delivers a full and juicy palate with notes of ripe fruit, dried red berries, roses, herbs, and a leathery finish. Its balanced, integrated acidity and refined tannins make it an outstanding match for roast meats, game, pasta dishes, and aged cheeses. Decanting is recommended to open up the aromas. The wine has excellent aging potential and can be cellared for up to 10 years.
