Tenuta Sette Ponti Crognolo Toscana IGT is a celebrated Super Tuscan red wine from the historic Tenuta Sette Ponti estate in Castiglion Fibocchi, Tuscany, Italy. First produced in 1998, Crognolo takes its name from the Cornelian cherry (cornus mas), a wild plant that grows abundantly on the estate. The wine is crafted primarily from Sangiovese (90%) sourced from the legendary Vigna dell'Impero vineyard, planted in 1935, blended with 10% Merlot for added smoothness and color depth.
Grapes are fermented at controlled temperatures with 20 days of maceration to extract rich color and structure. The wine is then aged in used French oak barriques followed by six months of bottle aging, yielding a polished, approachable style. It presents an intense ruby red color with aromas of ripe cherries and wild berries, complemented by spicy, complex notes. On the palate it is round, harmonious, and vibrant with well-integrated tannins and excellent depth. Alcohol content is 14%, and it is best served at 18°C (64°F).
Crognolo consistently earns outstanding critical acclaim, including 94 points from James Suckling, 94 points from Daniele Cernilli, and the prestigious Tre Bicchieri award from Gambero Rosso. It is an ideal pairing for grilled meats, roasted poultry, aged cheeses, and hearty pasta dishes.
