Maximin Grünhaus Herrenberg Riesling Auslese is a prestigious German white wine from the historic von Schubert estate in the Ruwer Valley, a tributary of the Mosel. The estate, first documented in 966 A.D. under Emperor Otto I, has been owned by the von Schubert family since 1882. The Herrenberg is one of three monopole (solely owned) vineyard sites on the estate, extending over 40 acres of deep soils with good water retention over a base of red Devonian slate.
Auslese ("select harvest") denotes grapes picked at an advanced level of ripeness, resulting in a medium-sweet wine with concentrated fruit character. The Herrenberg Riesling Auslese is known for an elegant nose of deep, flinty mineral notes intertwined with delicate ripe fruit aromas. On the palate it offers medium sweetness balanced by steely acidity, with tropical fruit flavors and excellent structure. Wines from the Herrenberg show fruit and body early in their lives but also possess extraordinary aging potential.
This 750ml bottle is an excellent example of fine German Riesling from one of the most acclaimed estates in the Mosel-Ruwer region, recognized as a Top 100 Winery by Wine & Spirits and awarded Winemaker of the Year by Gault Millau.
