Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial is the flagship wine of Marqués de Murrieta, one of Rioja's most storied estates founded in 1852. Produced exclusively from La Plana, a 40-hectare single vineyard planted in 1950 at 485 meters altitude in the Rioja Alta subzone, this wine is released only in exceptional or outstanding vintages, making each bottling a collector-worthy expression of Spain's premier red wine region.

The blend is composed of approximately 81% Tempranillo and 19% Mazuelo, aged for 34 months in 225-liter American oak barrels (Tempranillo) and 225-liter French oak barrels (Mazuelo). The result is a wine of profound complexity and remarkable freshness — aromas of black cherry, ripe plum, tea leaf, cedar wood, and Mediterranean herbs emerge over a background of dried flowers. On the palate it is full-bodied and deeply structured, with polished tannins, great depth, and a harmonious, long-lived finish.
