The Crape Myrtle (Lagerstroemia) is a stunning deciduous flowering tree prized for its long-lasting summer blooms and attractive multi-season interest. Sold in a substantial 15-gallon container, this tree arrives well-established with a strong root system, giving it an excellent head start compared to smaller nursery sizes.
Crape Myrtles thrive in full sun and are highly heat and drought tolerant once established, making them ideal for warm-climate landscapes across USDA hardiness zones 6–10. Trees typically reach 15 to 25 feet in height at maturity depending on the variety, with a graceful multi-trunk or single-trunk form. They produce clusters of crinkled flowers in shades of white, pink, red, lavender, or purple from summer through early fall, followed by attractive peeling bark and golden fall foliage.
Plant in well-draining soil with full sun exposure (at least 6–8 hours per day) for best flowering performance. Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a deep root system, then reduce to supplemental watering during dry spells. Fertilize in early spring with a balanced slow-release fertilizer to encourage vigorous growth and abundant blooms.
