Katherine Goldschmidt Cabernet Sauvignon is a California red wine crafted as a family collaboration between renowned winemaker Nick Goldschmidt and his middle daughter, Katherine. Sourced exclusively from the Stonemason Hill Vineyard in Alexander Valley, Sonoma County, this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon has become a highly regarded label known for elegance, complexity, and exceptional value.
The Stonemason Hill Vineyard is a distinctive north-facing site characterized by large rocks leading up to a stone-walled terrace, with gravel loam soil and mature vines โ many over thirty years old. The north-facing orientation results in more indirect sunlight than most Alexander Valley vineyards, producing a cooler growing environment where grapes ripen slowly and develop beautifully balanced acidity and complex nuance. Grapes are hand-picked, then aged in a combination of 70% French, 20% American, and 10% Hungarian oak barrels with a medium toast. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered and is vegan-friendly.
This wine presents a deep purple color with vibrant aromas of cherry, blueberry, and black cherry accented by a touch of French vanilla oak. On the palate, blueberry and black cherry persist, balanced by the signature electric tension of Alexander Valley that keeps the wine bright and supple. The finish is rounded with plush, velvet-like tannins. It pairs best with red meat dishes such as prime rib, filet mignon, or rack of lamb. The 2023 vintage earned 92 Points from Wine Enthusiast, 94 Points from the North Coast Wine Challenge, 93 Points from Vinous, and 91 Points from James Suckling, continuing a consistent record of critical acclaim across vintages.
