Quinta do Vallado Douro Red is a classic Portuguese red wine from the historic Douro Valley, produced by one of Portugal's most celebrated and storied estates. Quinta do Vallado traces its winemaking heritage to 1716 and was once owned by the legendary Portuguese vintner D. Antónia Adelaide Ferreira. Today the estate is led by sixth-generation family members and is recognized among the Top 100 Vineyards in the World.
This 750ml red wine is a blend of indigenous Douro grape varieties, primarily Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, and Sousão. Fruit is sourced from younger vines planted in the 1990s alongside old vines between 60 and 100 years of age. Grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks under controlled temperatures of 73–77°F. Following fermentation, 90% of the wine is aged for 8 months in stainless steel to preserve freshness and bright fruit character, while the remaining 10% spends 16 months in used French oak barrels (3rd and 4th year) for added depth and complexity. The two lots are blended prior to bottling.
The wine offers aromas of ripe black plum, boysenberry, and milled black pepper, with hints of anise, herbed green olive, and tar. The palate is full and generous with chewy tannins and a persistent finish typical of the Douro region. Critics have consistently awarded this wine 90+ point scores, and Quinta do Vallado is recognized as a Wine & Spirits Top 100 Producer.
