The jade plant (Crassula ovata) is a classic, long-lived succulent presented in an attractive 8-inch ceramic bowl with a 2.52-liter capacity. With its thick, woody stems and glossy, oval-shaped leaves, the jade plant has a distinctive miniature tree-like appearance that makes it one of the most popular and enduring decorative houseplants available.
Jade plants are exceptionally low-maintenance and well-suited to most indoor environments. They thrive in bright, indirect light of at least 6 hours per day — south- or west-facing windows work especially well. Allow the soil to dry out thoroughly between waterings; during the growing season (spring and summer), water deeply but infrequently, and reduce watering significantly during fall and winter dormancy. The plant grows best at room temperatures between 65°F and 75°F, and should be kept away from cold drafts or temperatures below 50°F, as jade is not frost tolerant.
Beyond their visual beauty, jade plants carry rich cultural significance. Revered in Feng Shui as a symbol of prosperity and good fortune, they are believed to attract wealth and positive energy, making them an ideal placement in an entryway or the southeast corner of a room. Jade plants can reach heights of 3 to 5 feet indoors and are nearly indestructible with proper care — they can be passed down through generations as lasting living gifts. Fertilize sparingly with a diluted succulent or cactus fertilizer every other month during the growing season, and repot only every 4 to 5 years as needed. Jade plant sap may cause skin irritation; wear gloves when repotting or pruning.
